On the Path to the Iron Bridge
This walk began with a sign.
A public path pointing towards Braemar by the Lairig Ghru, standing quietly among the trees. From there, the route moved through Rothiemurchus Forest, past old gates, warning signs, dog walkers, cyclists, runners, blossom, pine needles, river water and the Iron Bridge itself.
It was not a dramatic walk in the usual sense. There was no single grand view, no perfect mountain light, no moment asking to be photographed. Instead, the story was in the smaller things: a feather caught in pine needles, blossom hanging over an old fence, people passing each other on the track, the sound of water below the bridge, and signs slowly weathering into the landscape.
Highlands Unfiltered is drawn to these ordinary routes: the quiet places between destinations, the signs, paths, passing people, small details and weathered corners that make a walk feel lived in.
On the Path to the Iron Bridge is a record of one slow walk through woodland, weather, movement and small observations. Nothing staged, just the Highlands as they were found that day.
