About

Highlands Unfiltered is a documentary photo journal of Scotland, rooted in the Highlands - shaped by weather, landscape, culture, people, animals, creativity and the quiet details found between places.

Created and photographed by João Talis, known locally as JT, the project follows real moments as they unfold: local events, Highland traditions, artists, makers, animals, village life, mountain light, woodland paths, changing seasons, wildlife, lochs, working places and the atmosphere of everyday Scottish life.

Scotland is often shown through dramatic scenery, castles, mountains, lochs and postcard views. Those things matter, but this journal also looks for the quieter human side: community, culture, rural work, music, creativity, local encounters and places that can feel almost unnoticed until you stop and look.

Highlands Unfiltered is built from walking, observing and photographing what naturally appears - not staged, not over-polished, just real moments from Scotland, seen through a perspective rooted in the Highlands.
